This year’s Singapore JewelFest should be renamed OgleFest 2012. Now in its tenth year, the festival will showcase fine gems from a wide spectrum of designers and prices.  There will be classic pieces and fashion-forward bling; finely cut gems and untreated jewels; Asian designers and European; and finally, gems below S$10,000 as well as the usual trove of million-dollar pieces.

 We’re sure there will be plenty of guys hunting down that one special piece for their soon-to-be fiancées. But for those of us who aren’t quite there yet, never fear: there’s no need to avoid the Jewel Pavilion at Ngee Ann City the same way you would avoid a Tiffany’s on Valentine’s Day. Someday, you’ll wear a diamond and a wedding band on your left ring finger. But as long as it’s unadorned, why not try rocking a gigantic ruby or sapphire?

And if you’re inclined to keep that finger free – as many of our more sentimental friends are – take your singleness as an opportunity to let statement earring or a pendant be your signature piece. We’ve compiled a preview of designs that we’d love to get our hands on – and where we’d wear them if given the chance. We bet they’re even more stunning in real life.

Singapore JewelFest 2012 will be held at the Jewel Pavilion at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, Orchard Road.

Entry is free daily from October 12 to 21, noon – 9 p.m
Closed for private events from 6pm on October 11 and 16.
