Like Avril Lavigne, 26 year-old Carly Rae Jepsen could pass for a teenager – thanks in part to her youthful appearance, but mostly because everyone assumed that the person behind “Call Me Maybe” was just a kid. At the same time, there’s something a little bit off-putting about Carly’s colourful wardrobe, which looks more like something more appropriate for a Disney Channel cast member than for a grown woman. Even then, actual former Disney stars, like Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, and Selena Gomez, have taken pains to add urban elements into their style so that they look more mature.
