Lots of attractive Hollywood stars ugly themselves up to be taken more seriously as actors, and James Franco has worked so hard over the past several years to cultivate an artsy persona that we wouldn’t be surprised if that were his intention. Here, he looks less like the early-2000s brooding pretty boy we used to know, and more like that neighbour you always see downstairs smoking cigarettes in a discoloured bathrobe.

Our one-step style prescription: It’s probably a little too late to fix that complexion, but a clean shave would make a world of difference in James’ appeal.
