10 things that make Singaporean women beautiful

In the last month, you’ve probably come across Dove’s “Real Beauty” ad, which was created to show women that they are more beautiful than they think. Following the success of the video, Dove surveyed 1,800 women across Southeast Asia to find that only 2 per cent of women in Singapore would describe themselves as beautiful. Of the six Asian countries polled, Singapore ranked second to last for women’s confidence in their appearance. Rather than calling themselves pretty, women here were more likely to describe themselves as “natural” or “average.”
While one can argue that it’s more culturally appropriate for Singaporean women to speak modestly about themselves, they’d be perfectly justified in calling themselves beautiful – and we can think of at least 10 reasons why:
