SINGAPORE — “Romantic” is the word that Chinese actress Gao Yuan Yuan says encapsulates the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection perfectly. According to her, the collection “has a kind of easiness with attitude; it is free and, at the same, romantic, which is what Paris is all about”.
The 34-year-old actress had her first taste of showbiz acting in a television commercial for Meadow Gold ice-cream. She later made her film debut with a minor role in Spicy Love Soup (1997). Since then, she has appeared in TV dramas and films such as The Heaven Sword And Dragon Sabre, and Shanghai Dreams (which won the Prix de Jury prize at the 58th Cannes Film Festival).
Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan once described her as “having the freshest look and chaste spirit”. So it’s no surprise that she has taken to the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection. “The collection consists of tie-dye prints, embroidery, knitwear and pieces with craftsmanship, which are easy to mix and match,” she said. “I am extremely excited to add this collection to my wardrobe.”
Q: You did a photo shoot in Paris for the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection. Do you think there is anything in common about the collection and Paris?
A: Paris often gives an impression that it is fashionable in a very relaxed sense; yet at the same time, it’s a city with a wide variety of different cultures. This is the exact feeling I have with the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection. The collection has some simple and practical pieces, but when styled together, it brings out the extraordinary fashion sense and Parisian allure.
Q: What do you love about this offering?
A: I love the bohemian unisex tailoring, tie-dye prints and the weaving details, and the craftsmanship elements from the collection.
Q: How would you style the pieces from this collection?
A: I would match the embellished jacket with a white T-shirt; it is simple yet very exquisite. The embellished jacket has to be my favourite item — its mix of tie-dye fabric and beaded details makes this a refined piece.
A: I’ve always been a fan of H&M’s designer collaborations, such as the Marni at H&M collection, which I love. H&M brings classic designs from high-fashion designers to a young group of fashionistas, which goes very well with its business concept: Fashion and quality at the best price.
Q: What are you currently busy with?
A: I will be filming a new romantic movie with Nicholas Tse called Heart City. I am also involved in a new TV series with Huang Hai Bo called Let’s Get Married; so I will be busy with the publicity for this show.
