Nadya Hutagalung

Multi-talented Nadya Hutagalung is set to add to her resume as she takes on the role of host, mentor and judge on a new reality television show, Asia's Next Top Model. The FLY Entertainment artiste has years of hosting experience, but admitted that she was surprised by how different and intense this show was, and how close she got to the contestants.

"This show was definitely more emotional than I had expected," she said. "I grew very fond of the girls we had on the show. Each of them stood out in their own way and some really surprised us no end. There were some who pushed boundaries and buttons at every juncture, but the majority of the girls were hard-working and really put lots of effort into the competition."

How did you feel when you were chosen to be the host and judge of Asia's Next Top Model?

Nadya Hutagalung: It was a great honour to be selected. I really had to think hard about my motivation for taking the job. Ultimately, what was important to me was that we could provide a great panel of industry experts and mentors for the girls to ensure they had the best guidance to better themselves in the industry.

You design your own jewellery line, OSEL. What's the inspiration behind your creations?

Initially, it started out as my own pursuit of a sustainable option for me. My inspiration comes from the raw materials as I use recycled gold, pre-loved diamonds and responsibly sourced gems. These days, I have not been focusing so much on OSEL, due to time constraints, but still do quite a few custom orders, and might come up with a new collection when I have some time.

How would you describe your sense of style?

I would say that my style would be classic with an edge. I tend to buy good quality classics that can last for many seasons rather than fast fashion, which does not last long, due to both trends and poor quality manufacturing. Being eco-friendly sometimes means investing in a few good pieces that stand the test of time.

What are some fashion staples you can't live without?

I love my Stella McCartney shoes. Not every season suits my needs but whenever possible, I try to invest in a pair. I do sometimes buy leather shoes but again, I aim for classics that can last a few seasons and are easy to match with various outfits.

What's the best fashion advice that you can give our readers?

Find what suits you and your body best. Don't blindly follow trends. Invest in good quality classics.

Asia's Next Top Model is currently showing on Sundays at 8.55pm on Star World.
