Jessica Simpson is attempting to get fit this year with a tough boxing regime.

Jessica Simpson is taking up boxing to get fit. The 29-year-old singer, who was highly criticised after appearing to put on weight in 2009, took to her twitter page to reveal she was undertaking a new fitness regime. She wrote: 'Just done boxing... second day in a row... Have I lost my marbles?' It is not the first time that the pop-turned-country singer has discussed her exercise regime on twitter. Last November she wrote: 'Why am I still hurting from our workout earlier? I'm getting old!' Jessica will be starring in a documentary series this year looking at the expectations of women to look good. Discussing the programme, entitled 'The Price of Beauty', Jessica said: 'I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful.' Jessica's sister, singer-and-actress Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, leapt to her defence when the press targeted her weight gain in 2009. She said: 'I am completely disgusted. Since when did a woman's weight become newsworthy? How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticise a size two figure?'
