DJ Axwell: the next Iron Man?

These days, it seems to be in vogue for DJs to come up with flashy stage getups. There’s deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”, for the uninitiated) with his huge Mickey-shaped helmets, Savant with his Guy Fawkes mask (you know, the white smiling one from V for Vendetta), and Cazzette with their LED-mouthed cassette tapes.
But Axel Christofer Hedfors (better known as DJ Axwell and formerly one-third of EDM supergroup Swedish House Mafia) has certainly not needed any of that to stand out – he looks perfectly cool enough working his turntable magic in a T-shirt and headphones.
Heck, he looked cool just sitting there in a simple top and jeans during our interview, held in a makeshift tent on the grassy outdoor area of the Stockholm Maritime Museum. It was a peaceful, mostly quiet Friday noon – a far cry from Carlsberg’s energetic, 10,000-strong shindig that was to take place there the very next evening (more on that to come).
Anyway, back to the topic of funky disc jockey gear: if Axwell could follow in the footsteps of his fellow DJs and pick out a costume, what would he choose?
After thinking it over for a few seconds, he told us he’d go with “a sort of Iron Man suit”. “I’d be able to do all kinds of stuff that’s never been seen before, such as fly in and fly out of the place,” he said. “That would definitely be worth having.” But unlike his face-covered counterparts, Axwell added that he’d do without the iconic superhero mask.
