Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro)

Martin Scorsese directed his long-term collaborator Robert De Niro in this classic drama that had a huge cultural impact. The film centres on the character of Travis Bickle who becomes increasingly alienated from society, before transforming his appearance by shaving his hair into a Mohawk and styling himself in army gear with aviator sunglasses. Costume designer Ruth Morley gave De Niro his Western, all-American plaid shirt paired with the military jacket. Its patches and his name on the back identified Bickle as a Vietnam veteran.
