Carey Mulligan herself admitted in a Jay Leno interview a few years ago that she doesn’t have a memorable face, so it’s easy to see why pixie cuts work so well for her. With long hair, she looks cute, but a little bit mousy and plain. Short hair gives her just the right amount of sophistication to break out of girlish roles (such as the ones she had in Never Let Me Go and An Education), so that she can play grown-up characters.
