The 89 contestants for the title of Miss Universe 2012 piled on their glamourous fashion sense in the Evening Gown competition held late last week. Having the beauty queens strut down the runway in their stunning gowns is part of the pageant's run-up rounds (the others being the Swimsuit and Interviews contests), which trim the long list of beauty queens to a final selection of 16 candidates for the showpiece final scheduled for December 19.

Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes of Angola, will crown her successor at the end of the big final tomorrow, which organisers are expecting to be watched by more than a billion people worldwide.
