American Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012, beating 88 other beauties from around the world to claim the coveted title.

The 20-year-old Rhode Islander, who took the crown from Leila Lopes of Angola, was the first American to win the coveted title since Brook Lee in 1997.

The first runner-up title went to Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon, while Irene Sofía Esser Quintero of Venezuela was in third place. The title of Miss Congeniality was given to Miss Guatemala Laura Godoy by the contestants.
