Oscar de la Renta has opened a new exhibition in Dallas, Texas.

The display - which is entitled 'Oscar de la Renta: Five Decades of Style' - features 64 mannequins sporting evening gowns designed by Oscar, 81, between 1967 and the present, to produce an overview of the designer's impressive career.

The stunning exhibition was thought up by former first lady, Laura Bush - wife of George W. Bush - who got to know the designer while he dressed her during her time in the White House, reports WWD.

He said: ''Mrs. [Laura] Bush came up with the idea of doing a show at the Bush Library and, of course, we embraced the idea.

''I dressed her all through the years she was in the White House, and she is an unbelievably lovely and wonderful lady, so I was very proud to help her in any way I could.''

The exhibition - which is being held at the Bush Library - has been curated by Molly Sorkin and Jennifer Park who also curated a show of the designer's work at New York's Queen Sofía Spanish Institute.

Meanwhile, Oscar recently put an end to rumours that his is looking for a new creative director for his design house after reports emerged that Olivier Theyskens of Theory and Prabal Gurung were in the running to replace him.

He told The New York Times that there is ''no search under way'', although it is not said to be definite and there are rumours he could be looking in the future.
