Qi Yuwu goes for simplicity, Rebecca Lim says it’s all in the mind
When you are a celebrity, keeping up with the demands of your appearance becomes a full-time job. But few artistes are as easygoing about it as Guangzhou-born actor Qi Yuwu.
Having gained much popularity recently for his endearing role as a passionate TV director Jason Lam in Channel 8’s blockbuster drama The Dream Makers, Yuwu surprised xinmsn when he revealed his fuss-free, one-step skincare routine at an SK-II Pitera House event on Friday.
The 36-year-old merely washes his face daily as a way of maintaining his skin, and does so twice a day. He also added that he had little interest in skincare products, and cites drugstore brand like Hazeline Snow Moisturising Cream as the only type of product he used growing up.
So dispassionate about the topic was he that when xinmsn cautiously commented about apparent freckles on his face (made more obvious by close-up shots on TV), Yuwu replied bluntly that he did not care about concealing them.
“I’ve had many stylists, directors and make-up artists come up to me about it, asking me to cover it up for TV. But I told them not to do anything to my face, as I felt that it didn’t bother me.”
The actor also explained that he has had freckles since he was young, and in fact, “quite like[s] it”.
Looking dapper in a black suit at the event, Yuwu appeared to be in a good mood and hardly showed fatigue despite having just flown in from filming in Beijing the day before. When asked if his new found romance with actress Joanne Peh had a part in his glowing complexion, the actor broke out in a reticent smile and stared blankly in reply. However, he became chattier when the topic shifted back to his move to Singapore as a young chap in 1999.
Having been born and raised in China where there are seasonal change, Yuwu recalled that it was hard for his skin to adapt to our humid climate in the beginning, but thankfully for him, a lifestyle of regular exercise helped rectify the problem. Talk about good genes.
