Rihanna wanted River Island fashion line to suit her personal style
Rihanna has revealed her debut clothing line for River Island came about because she has always liked to alter shop-bought items and wanted a line that would fit her personal style.
Rihanna has always wanted to be a fashion designer.
The pop star says she was inspired to create a clothing line for British high street store River Island because she has always liked to tweak and revamp shop-bought items to match her own bold and daring style.
Speaking in a teaser video about her new line for VOGUE magazine, Rihanna said: ''I have wanted to design my own fashion label for a very long time. This has been something I wanted to do ever since I started loving fashion.
''Every time I saw something on a rack there was something I wanted to do to change it and so I thought that the only way I could do that is by designing the perfect thing for me.''
The 'Stay' chart-topper and her co-designer Adam Selman give fans a sneak peak around her design studio in the new video, in which she also reveals her debut line will afford River Island customers a wardrobe that's as trend-setting as her own.
Rihanna explained: ''The kids say what's cool and the designers go and design it. Why not go to the source when you want to be ahead of the trend? I wanted to create something that's inspirational, new and fresh - that's why I wanted to work with River Island.''
However, the singer insists she wants to appeal to a wide range of girls and hopes people will find something to suit their shape with her edgy clothes, which were shown to include striped tops, swimwear, jumpsuits and a floor-length black dress with sheer panelling.
She said: ''I wanted all types of girls to be able to wear this and feel comfortable but edgy. I wanted there to be character within the clothes, but without it trying too hard. It's just simple.''
The collection will be unveiled at London Fashion Week next month and will arrive in stores on March 5.
