SINGAPORE — Olivia Ong is “known for her pristine and blemish-free image”, so it’s only natural the soft-spoken singer, whose voice really does tempt you into a sweet slumber, was made the face of the FANCL MUTENKA line in March. The 27-year-old likes that the brand is “simple and uncomplicated”. Uncomplicated seems to be the order of the day for Ong. Ask her what’s the craziest thing she has done in the name of beauty, and she will tell you that “waking a little earlier to make a green smoothie” would be “as crazy as I go”.
Q: How did you get acquainted with FANCL?
A: I’ve been a FANCL user since I was 18 years old, when I went over to Japan to live for a few years. I’ve always seen FANCL in those Japanese magazines so one day after school, when I was at the Shinjuku station, I saw a small booth of FANCL (products) and on a whim, I decided to get the Mild Cleansing Oil (S$33). I’ve been using that make-up remover ever since.
Q: Wow, that’s a really long time. Why do you like it so much?
A: First of all, it doesn’t hurt my eyes when the oil seeps in; some others do. You don’t need a lot (to remove make-up) and it’s very effective. It’s just simple, easy and gentle on the skin.
Q: Being such a frequent traveller, what are some products that you have to have onboard?
A: A face mask, a moisturising cream and a spritzer.
Q: And which product can you never leave home without?
A: Lip balm. I think for me to feel absolutely comfortable and not distracted, my lips have to be moisturised. Because if it’s dry, I’ll always be like (smacking of lips together). It’s very distracting.
Q: Lastly, do you have a beauty tip to impart?
A: Well, my make-up artist in Taipei taught me to line the bottom of my lashes lightly with a brown shadow or brown pencil liner because when you get tired, your eyes lose its focus. So, when you have the line drawn at the bottom lightly, it makes your eyes more focused, more alert looking.
