SINGAPORE — “I really like your shoes. You look cool,” said Kate Bosworth as she sat down for our 20-minute interview last Sunday.
I guess the 31-year-old actress should know. The Hollywood star clearly has fashion and style running through her veins. Her father was a former Talbots and Ermenegildo Zegna retail executive and Bosworth herself has a jewellery line designed with friend and celebrity stylist Cher Coulter called JewelMint, which was launched in 2010.

But Bosworth, who is also the ambassador of Japanese brand SK-II, wasn’t in town to promote her line. Instead, the star of movies such as Blue Crush and Straw Dogs flew into Singapore to attend Oscar de la Renta’s Fall/Winter 2014 show at the Audi Fashion Festival. The 81-year-old de la Renta designed two dresses for Bosworth’s wedding to director Michael Polish last year.
“He’s so masterful in timeless elegance and that was what I desired for my own wedding design,” Bosworth gushed. “I am very grateful and honoured that he collaborated with me on such an important moment of my life; so I’m deeply, deeply indebted to him always.”
But just how does the Superman Returns star get her look? For Bosworth, style is about getting the right mix; and sometimes, she said, less is more. “There’s a power to restraint that I find very interesting,” she said. “And there’s a difference between the strength of minimalism and something that is boring or bland. I find that if someone can master minimalism thoughtfully and cleverly ... it’s a challenging thing to do and it interests me.”
