2012: The Terminator

Unlike her previous costumes, which only took a few months of planning, Rozz spent a whole year working on her Terminator getup. She got the idea while browsing the Internet just a day after Halloween 2011, and immediately contacted her makeup artist to see if she’d be able to create it. “Honestly, she undersold her work,” Rozz said. “She told me it’d be 80 per cent of what I wanted, and it was more like over 90!”

While Rozz didn’t expect her makeup to look so great, she didn’t think that the flashing eye would be so uncomfortable either. To keep the prosthetic in place, she had to tape down her right eye. After a few hours, she felt as if there were a large piece of sand rubbing against her eyeball. As if that weren’t disconcerting enough, Rozz’s one working eye became strained from overwork. The limited visibility affected her depth perception, which ended up making her nauseous as she navigated through the throngs of people at Clarke Quay on Saturday night.

“The sensation was torturous,” Rozz said. “I think I pulled something in my eye. It looked good, but I felt miserable.”

In the end, Rozz ended up taking only a few pictures because she spent so much time away from the crowd, resting from her discomfort. Once she got home, she ripped off the prosthetic as fast as she could, only to find that she couldn’t open her eye. She thought she was going to go blind – and worst of all, she had to hit up the Red Bull FlugTag in Sentosa that morning in her handicapped state.

But not to worry – after a luxurious night of sleep, Rozz woke up on Monday morning fully recovered. So does she regret wearing such an uncomfortable costume?

“I don’t regret it at all,” Rozz said. “There’s something uncomfortable with every costume. With Zip Face, the blood was dripping everywhere so I could only eat fries or sip from a straw. With the Red Devil, I couldn’t get the paint off. Creatively, my makeup artist really delivered – but next year, I’m going to really, really research my costume ahead of time!”
