If you are a keen reader, where would some of the best English-speaking places in the world be?
These days, with a tablet or smartphone you can buy almost any e-book (territorial rights notwithstanding) wherever you are. And you can even continue to access your favourite magazines and newspapers while on your travels. Gone are the days of being marooned bookless in an unfamiliar city; or worse, being somewhere where the typical bookshop is but a glorified stationery store with the odd Dan Brown junk.
Still, it's nice to go somewhere and be amongst avid bibliophiles, in cities where the written word is revered. Cities where you will find quaint indie bookstores, easy access to WiFi, tatty secondhand dives, vibrant public libraries, buzzy megastores, and newsagents chock-a-bloc with all persuasions of newspapers and magazines.
Here's our favourite five.
