Being single over the holidays can make you feel a little bit like an orphan. Unless you hold up with your own parents, you’re going to feel a little removed from the spirit of family and togetherness that defines the holiday. Even then, it can feel a little awkward spending the holidays with your family if you’re the only sibling who is still single. How can you enjoy Christmas lunch when you spend half the night avoiding that cousin who keeps shoving you under the mistletoe with his friends? And how can you stand to hear your friends blab about the presents their boyfriends got them without feeling a little depressed?
The answer is, by revelling in your freedom. Christmas is pretty magical, but it’s also pretty time-consuming and expensive. By being single over the holiday, you get to enjoy all the benefits (food, friends, presents) with only half the responsibility.
So if your Christmas is feeling a little blue, remind yourself why it’s often better to be single over Christmas
