Remember when your partner hinted not too long ago of a book or that fragrance he or she wanted so badly? You would be far remised not to tailor your gifting to such hints. A good trick to really make it a surprise (read: playing hard-to-get) is to note the subtler hints: the ones your partner sometimes namedrops to make it obvious are easy bait.
