Unfortunately, not all makeovers were for the better. Joe Simpson, father of Jessica and Ashlee, received some unprecedented attention this year when the tabloids claimed that he’d divorced the girls’ mother because he is gay. Over the next few days, TMZ published photos of the former Baptist preacher (who once favoured dark, conservative colours) sporting frosted tips, skinny jeans, and a neon yellow sweater. While internet commenters took this as a sure sign of Papa Joe’s homosexuality (which he later denied), there’s no doubt that he’s not the same suit-wearing minister he was 10 years ago.
