Singapore’s second cat cafe to open

TheCatCafe to be located at Bugis Village

SINGAPORE – It’s official: Singaporeans love their cats.

Renovations are currently underway for Singapore’s second cat cafe, which will likely open its doors officially in April.

TheCatCafe, located in Bugis Village, will house about 15 to 20 stray cats adopted from shelters.

This comes barely two months after the opening of Neko no Niwa at Boat Quay, which unleashed kitty mania when it opened last December. (http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/roaring-reception-cat-cafe)

Like Neko no Niwa, TheCatCafe will allow patrons to play with its resident cats as they sip from cups of coffee or tea. However, TheCatCafe will charge a per-entry fee, which allows customers to spend as much time as they like at the cat cafe, instead of a per-hour fee.

“The market is big enough for Singapore to have a second or third cat cafe,” said TheCatCafe owner, Candice Neo, who added that she began planning for her business about a year ago.

“My husband and I love cats,” said Neo. “We first saw the cat cafe in Taiwan last year, and we decided to bring it to Singapore. We liked the concept and the whole environment.”

TheCatCafe is also holding a crowdfunding campaign to raise US$15,000 (S$19,000), which Neo says will go towards defraying the costs of renovations, as well as adoption and vaccination fees for the cats. In return, contributors will be able to enter the cafe at discounted rates. Feline friends, you know what to do.
