New + Noted: The Buttered Cat

The Buttered Cat

Did you know that among the Chinese restaurants near Chinatown’s Oriental Plaza is a quaint English-style tearoom? The Buttered Cat opened late last year as a production kitchen, but started its tearoom extension about two months ago. On the menu: homey recipes by owner and self-taught baker It Soh, including her signature Sugee Cake ($19 per loaf) and Chicken Pies ($9 for 6). Note that the tearoom is mostly open for private parties only. Still, it’s worth puffing your way up the four flights of stairs to see if any takeaways are available and to browse her vintage bone china collection (also for sale). The safer option? Order the goodies online and collect at the shop.
