Opening in the fourth quarter of 2014, the circuit is designed by the renowned Hermann Tilke of Tilke Engineers & Architects, who has designed more than 65 tracks worldwide, including the Formula One circuits of Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Bahrain and Texas.
Singapore’s first world-class karting track will the world’s first to have part of the circuit running underneath train tracks.
The track is approximately 900m long, with a minimum track width of seven metres designed to enable karts to achieve a top speed exceeding 100km/h on the straight. The circuit can also be easily reconfigured into two separate tracks, thus enabling race organisers to run two races simultaneously.
Besides the garages, the Paddock Building will house a members’ lounge, as well as a viewing gallery to allow a bird’s eye view overlooking the entire circuit.
Hermann Tilke, the man behind the circuit, said, “With a compact track such as the KF1 Karting Circuit, spectators can view almost the entire track and not miss out on any action. While the track meets all the safety regulations, it is also tricky for drivers. The slight elevation in the track makes it interesting to race in.”
Even if you’re not on the circuit and just passing by on the MRT, you can still catch a glimpse of the races if you’re lucky — part of the KF1 Karting Circuit will have part of its track running underneath existing train tracks, hence allowing MRT patrons a panoramic view of the track and ongoing racing action whenever the trains pass overhead — a world’s first!
Racing fans can also look forward to international karting races being held there in the coming months.
