With accolades that include a 68th spot on the prestigious S. Pellegrino World's 100 Best Restaurants in 2012, and regular appearance on The Miele Guide's Top 20 Restaurants in Asia, it wasn't much of a surprise when Restaurant Andre was named Best Restaurant in Singapore last night at the inaugural S. Pellegrino Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2013. Chef Andre Chiang's eponymous restaurant, known for its highly imaginative creations based on Andre's self-coined "Octaphilosophy", also occupies the fifth spot on the Asian-wide list.
And it wasn't just Andre who won big at the Asian spinoff of the World's 50 Best Restaurants; nine other restaurants also added to the Singapore tally -- many of whom are familiar names in the local gourmet scene -- and chefs Janice Wong and Julien Royer picked up special recognition awards for Asia's Best Pastry Chef and 'One To Watch' for JAAN respectively. Not bad at all for a first year outing at the awards ceremony.
