After 'thinspo' crackdown, 'fitspo' takes off

(Relaxnews) - As Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest are cracking down on "thinspo" content -- images and articles that "inspire" readers to maintain eating disorders and achieve excessive thinness -- the latest trend in self-obsession, dubbed "fitspo," is gaining ground.

According to blog Blisstree on Friday, fitspo is the latest breed of "body-negative, obsession-spurring 'inspiration.'" Fitspo aims to motivate you to hit the gym with photos of svelte, tanned women in sports bras and micro-shorts offering messages such as "You don't always get what you wish for, you get what you work for" or "Enjoy your pain, you've earned it." While the goals have shifted to achieving fitness and health over thinness, it's unclear if fitspo is "just thinspo in sheep's clothing," writes Blisstree.
