What is it: Hooping is cardio using a hula hoop that has been adapted to be slightly larger and heavier than normal, to make the movement easier but also more effective. It improves core strength and is a low-impact, high-energy workout.

It incorporates tricks and moves from many current trends, including rhythmic gymnastics, belly dancing, hip-hop and salsa dancing. There is no limit to what can be incorporated into a hoop dance routine and it is certain to take you back to your childhood days spent hula hooping in the playground.

How many calories will it burn: Depending on the intensity of the class you can burn 300-500 calories in an hour's class.

Body parts it tones: Hula hooping is great for toning your stomachs, thighs and butts.
