You know that age old saying that was always drilled into you when you were being cheeky – “‘I want’ never gets”? Well this is a rule that should often be broken when it comes to your career, so we’ve changed it to “‘I want’ often gets”. As long as you remain polite and professional, saying “I want to work on this project”, “I want to move up in the business”, or even “I want a pay rise”, can be beneficial in getting you ahead. If your boss doesn’t know what your hopes are for your job, how are they to know that something needs to change?
