Starring: Julian McMahon, Xavier Samuel, Adrian Pang, Qi Yuwu

Directed by: Kimble Randall

Why watch: It’s Singapore/Australia’s first 3D horror flick!

The low-down: Bad things happen when a motley group of shoppers are trapped in a supermarket by a freak tsunami. And it gets better: the survivors are stuck with two Great White sharks ... two very hungry Great White sharks.

The buzz: You’ve heard of Snakes on a Plane; now get ready for Sharks in a Mart! So if you’re in the mood for a silly exploitative creature feature, then this Singaporean/Australian joint venture, which recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, could be your cup of tea. Filmed in Australia’s Gold Coast, the US$27 million (S$33 mil) production is partly bankrolled by MDA. Money aside, we also contributed the special effects, the score (Mee Pok Man Joe Ng composed it) and actors Qi Yuwu and Adrian Pang. The latter, if you’ve seen the spoilerific trailer, will — how shall we put this delicately? — exit the movie in a really unforgettable way that’s both gruesome and funny. In 3D, no less. You’ve been warned.

Opens: Nov 29
