A dysfunctional family portrait
Story by DOUGLAS TSENG
Starring: Robert Pattinson, Kristin Stewart, Taylor Lautner
Directed by: Bill Condon
Why watch: It’s the end of the road for the vampire saga!
The low-down: Mr and Mrs Edward Cullen (R-Patz and K-Stew) have to protect their half-human, half-vampire daughter, Renesmee (newcomer MacKenzie Foy), from the Volturi — the vampire world’s overlords — from executing her.
The buzz: Can the final instalment of the Twilight franchise be a good movie that satisfies both the Twi-hard and Twi-hate camps? Director Bill Condon believes it won’t be a snooze-fest (or an accidental comedy). “I always thought of Part 1 as having two distinct halves: the romantic and the horror,” he says. “But this one is epic; this is a whole different thing.” Just how different? For starters, Bella is now a vampire. “Her transformation from high school girl to fierce warrior is amazing,” he enthuses. And Bella will show off her newfound prowess in — and this is the “epic” part — the climactic clash between the Cullens and the Volturi. “It’s the end of our movie, and it’s a big deal to really bring it to the high point it deserves,” says Stewart. Sounds promising, but what if they mess it up again? Oh well, the studio can always reboot the series. Believe it or not, there’s already talk of a remake. If it happened to Spider-Man, it could happen to Twilight as well. “I pity the person who would take over my part,” jokes R-Patz. “I would [start] a campaign against them.”
