Quite Different

Brad Pitt is everywhere, waxing lyrical. About Chanel No.5... Shot in black and white, the new campaign sees Pitt looking pensive and waxing philosophical about the journey of life. Directed by Joe Wright of Anna Karenina and Atonement fame, the clip sees the company breaking away from female ambassadors - Chanel herself, Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve, Lauren Hutton, Nicole Kidman and Audrey Tautou.
While many have lauded Chanel’s innovative and indirect way of marketing its legendary perfume, some factions have called it pretentious and highfalutin’. Wright, who also directed two previous campaigns for Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle, defends the series of ads, saying: "Each resembles a short poem. I don’t see why perfume commercials shouldn’t be moving." Here, the 40-year-old director reveals more.
