DAVID FIELDEN
Just like every bride-to-be, Loh Tann-Ling went on a hunt for the perfect gown for her wedding. Big-name brands were limited in Singapore, and could only be found at high-end boutiques. And so began the idea of housing her favourite bridal brands under one roof.
This led to Loh opening The Prelude Bridal in October 2011, Singapore's first multi-label designer bridal boutique.
"I toyed with the idea of bringing in international bridal-fashion designers. I wanted to establish a multi-label boutique, like an On Pedder for brides!" she explains.
With designs by Amanda Wakeley, David Fielden, Junko Yoshioka and more, her boutique is all about classic gowns with a fashion-forward edge.
Here, she tells us more about The Prelude Bridal.
How and why did you get into the bridal business?
While I was searching for my wedding gown, I chanced upon various multi-label bridal boutiques overseas and appreciated the convenience of being able to see a wide range of internationally renowned designers at one location. Singapore was lacking a multi-label bridal showroom, and that inspired me to start my own.
But aren't designer dresses expensive?
There is a common misconception that gowns by international designers are "a lot more expensive", but I hope The Prelude Bridal will be able to correct this perception with time. Many customers are surprised that the prices of our gowns are, in fact, comparable to many local bridal designers'.

JUNKO YOSHIOKA
Which designer is your personal favourite?
I like David Fielden and Junko Yoshioka for their contemporary style. They are innovative and edgy, yet retain the feel of timeless elegance. But my personal favourite would have to be my own wedding gown by David Fielden. I carry my favourites from each season - designs that I would love to buy for myself.
Isn't it cheaper to buy designer dresses online?
Nothing beats seeing yourself in the gown and getting feedback from close friends or family. Although it's very convenient, the online option just doesn't offer the same experience, and there is always the risk that your chosen gown doesn't turn out as expected.
Does your boutique offer other services?
We have also brought in accessories from US designer Haute Bride and UK milliner Vivien Sheriff, and are currently working on expanding our product range to include bridesmaids' and groomsmen's outfits. We have also handpicked a panel of photographers, florists and makeup artists that we can recommend to customers.
