DON’T: Be passive-aggressive

Nobody likes hearing criticism, but it’s even worse in the form of ambiguously bitter comments like:

“I’m sorry you feel that way.” (Translation: “I’m not really sorry, you’re the one who’s over-sensitive.”)  

“I don’t even know how I’d survive being single. But you’re awesome at it! I’ll definitely come to you if I ever break up with my boyfriend.” (Translation: “I’m in a relationship and you’re not.”)  

“I wish I were confident enough to wear that outfit.” (Translation: “Your fashion sense sucks.”)

Comments like those are engineered to undermine the person without implicating you for saying something blatantly mean. This is where cattiness begins, guys. Don’t give your friend a reason to question the meaning behind things you say to her.
