10. Let her go

As seen in
: Casablanca, My Best Friend’s Wedding

For a movie that doesn’t end with “happily ever after,” Casablanca sure is romantic. At the end of the movie, Rick (Humphrey Bogart) lets his old lover Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) fly off with her husband, whom she didn’t know was still alive when she and Rick were still seeing each other. In a similar vein, the character played by Julia Roberts in My Best Friend’s Wedding stops pursuing the man she loves after realising that he’s meant to be with someone else. Sometimes, the best way you can show that you love someone is by letting him go. It might not occur against the backdrop of World War II, and it might not involve you being the bridesmaid of your romantic rival, but simply giving someone your blessing to find happiness elsewhere can be the ultimate gesture of true love.
