10. Choosing to stay single

One of the biggest downsides to being single is having to field questions from people about when they’re going to get married, if they want to date so-and-so who’s also single, and how they can deal with being alone all the time. For many people involved in happy relationships, it’s unfathomable that someone who’s perfectly eligible and attractive could choose to stay 100 per cent single in the prime of their youth.

But for single people, it’s the other way around. Why would they tie themselves down to somebody when they’re young and free? Why not take that time to establish a career, move to a different city, and try things they won’t have time for once they’re married? It’s not a lonely life, as long as you have friends, a job, and passions to keep you occupied. And as much as they might joke about being “forever alone,” chances are, if they’re productive and have fun on the weekends, they’re perfectly fine with where they are in life.
