Going on a date is like going on a job interview. If you make a bad first impression, you're going to have a hell of a time bouncing back. Unlike normal interactions, first dates give both parties the freedom to evaluate each other based on the tiniest gestures. Sure, you can argue that such fussy people aren't worthy of dating, but there's a thin line between a charming foible and a social faux pas, and we're going to draw it at rude behaviour. If you make the other person feel uncomfortable off the bat, then you'd better do some damage control to redeem the next couple of hours before locking down that second date.
